The RCM Executive Committee is comprised of a series of directors and is tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of the Masjid and planning community events.

Arshad Anwar, Resident Imam
Imam Arshad grew up on the gulf coast of south Mississippi. He began his pursuit for Islamic learning after graduating high school and attending the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan. He graduated with a B.A. (Honors) in Usul-ud-Din (Principles of Religion) with a specialization in Tafsir and Quranic Sciences, and was blessed to study both in and out of the university with scholars from around the world. After completing his studies, he taught Arabic, Quran, and Islamic Studies at an Islamic School in Roswell, GA. He went on to earn a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership. He is fluent in English and Urdu, and well versed in Classical Arabic. He considers himself a student of knowledge and enjoys learning. His hobbies are teaching, martial arts, working out, and anything to do with comedy!
Zubair Zafar, Executive Director
Zubair Zafar is currently the Executive Director of RCM. He was raised in Panama City, Florida and attended the University of Florida, where he received a degree in Business Administration witha focus in economics, along with a minor in English. Realizing corporate America was not his calling, Zubair transitioned careers and moved to Dallas, Texas to study Arabic at Bayyinah Institute. After graduating, he continued his studies at Qalam Institute and received an ijazah in General Islamic studies. Currently, Zubair is pursuing his MBA with a focus in Non-Profit Management from Emory University.
Lubna Merchant, Office Manager
Lubna has been a member of our community for 17 years and resides in Alpharetta with her husband and 2 sons. She enjoys socializing, event planning, and long walks. She comes to RCM with a wide array of experience through various positions including Reuters, AT&T, and Amana Academy. Lubna has been working with RCM for more than a year now and is the point-person for maintenance, financial administration, program registrations, and anything else she can lend a hand in. She helps to facilitate meetings, appointments, facility requests, and provides support for visitors. She is also responsible for Internal Communications at RCM and will be leading the RCM Clubs initiative.
Sameera Omar, External Communicatons Director
Sameera grew up in New Jersey, Thailand, and Riyadh, and spent her remaining childhood in Atlanta. She is a proud Yellow Jacket from Georgia Tech, where she received a Bachelors in Science in Psychology. After graduating, she spent a year at Bayyinah Institute learning Arabic, and then returned to Atlanta, where she has been a part of many community organizing initiatives in the startup and nonprofit communities (among them, TEDx, Startup Exchange, MIST Atlanta). She’s been serving as a youth mentor at Gwinnett Islamic Circle for four years, and is excited to join the RCM family.

Bana Albitar, QSP Director
Bana has a Medical Laboratory Technician certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Learning. She has earned a Qu’ran Tajweed Ijazah (certification) from Sheikh Muhie Addeen Alkurdi and a Nuraniyah certificate from the Furqan Center in Jeddah. In 2012, Bana and her husband, Ahmad Qassab, moved to the US with their 4 children. In addition to serving as QSP director, Bana aids the ABI team on a regular basis.
Dania Ibrahim, UpLift Youth President
Dania is a first year neuroscience student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Born and raised in Georgia, Dania is the youngest of four and grew up in a family of cultural involvement and activism. Dania has always had a passion for community engagement and building bridges. Among the many clubs and organizations she has joined, one of her proudest achievements is creating the Picnic for Peace, an annual interfaith event dedicated to bringing together people of different beliefs and backgrounds for the purpose of promoting peace, understanding, and unity. Dania has been involved in UpLift as an active member since it’s inception in 2013, then later taking positions of leadership- first as an events coordinator, and currently as president.
Hounada Sinno, At-Large Director
Hounada earned a Degree in Architecture from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. She moved to Atlanta in 1993, where she was granted the opportunity to work for an Architectural Design firm and later, an Information Transport Systems company. She currently works as an independent consultant for individuals and non-profit organizations. Hounada’s involvement at RCM began with the renovation project of the current facility. Upon completion of the building, she served as the Facility Manager and is presently assisting in the Qur’anic Sciences Program. She has also been a Speaker with the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta since 2002 and enjoys Interfaith Work. Hounada is married with two children and is grateful to be part of the RCM community.
Mohsin Afridi, IT Director
Mohsin grew up in Queens, NY and currently resides in Alpharetta. Mohsin earned his Bachelors in Computer Information Systems from Long Island University in Brookville, NY. He currently works for a telecommunications firm headed out of Atlanta where he helps support video middleware operations. Mohsin joined RCM’s executive committee in 2015 and is responsible for supporting RCM’s IT infrastructure and web presence.
Nadia Azam, Social Services Director
Nada joined the RCM family in 2015, and currently manages the distribution of donated funds to deserving individuals and organizations, in accordance with RCM’s charter. She actively works to strengthen new and existing community partnerships to create meaningful impact for those in need. Nadia spent 15 years in San Francisco, where she raised her two daughters and spent her free time volunteering in regular and Sunday schools for various administrative responsibilities. After relocating to Alpharetta, Nadia volunteered at the Islamic Center of North Fulton (ICNF) for six years, including three years as the PTA president. She is currently an active operating committee member with the Glitter of Hope Foundation, which aims to help refugee orphans and single mother families.
Riyad Merchant: Facilities Director
Riyad has been a part of the Atlanta community for more than 19 years and currently lives in Alpharetta with his wife and two children. During the week Riyad works as a Software Architecture Lead at CareerBuilder.com. Over the weekends he serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for RCM’s Troop 12, where he regularly enjoys camping trips with his Boy Scouts. As Facility Director, he leads the activities of the facility management committee, establishes processes for code compliance and security, and resolves facility-related requests by engaging appropriate vendors.
Samer Bashir, ABI Director
Samer has two sons: Khaleel and Yousuf. Samer. He was raised in Dubai and Palestine and has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics/Artificial Intelligence). Currently, Samer works as a Senior Engineer at Norfolk Southern Railway. Samer has been involved with RCM since our inception and has played various roles in the areas of education, operations, and religious affairs. In addition to directing ABI, Samer serves on the Religious Affairs committee. His hobbies include weight lifting and martial arts.
Shaheen Bharde, Public Relations/Communications Director
Shaheen runs a complementary therapy business catered to the care and rehabilitation of critical care patients in the Atlanta area. She has been involved with RCM since the inception of the masjid. She currently chairs the Public Relations Committee and works with many local businesses and interfaith organizations to build bridges with RCM’s community. She was elected as governing Board member in May 2011 and served as the Board Secretary for four years. To further benefit the work of RCM, Shaheen also serves on the Governing Board at North Fulton Community Charities, as well as on the Pastoral Advisory Committee at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Shaheen has been featured in Women’s History month in 2014 and recognized in 40 under 40 Georgia Muslims in 2016. Shaheen currently lives in Alpharetta, and is married, with two boys.
