The RCM Executive Committee is comprised of a series of directors and is tasked with managing the day-to-day operations of the Masjid and planning community events.
Current RCM Executive Committee Members
Bana Albitar, QSP Director, was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. She has a medical laboratory technician certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood learning. Moreover, Bana earned a Qu’ran tajweed ijazah (certification) from Sheikh Muhie Addeen Alkurdi and a Nuraniyah certificate from the Furqan Center in Jeddah. Prior to coming to RCM, Bana has served in several mosques in Damascus, teaching and supervising teachers. In 2012, Bana and her husband, Ahmad Qassab, moved to the US with their 4 children. In addition to serving as QSP director, Bana aids the ABI team on a regular basis.
Arshad Anwar, Resident Imam, was born in Karachi, Pakistan and moved to the United States with his family at the age of seven. He grew up in south Mississippi with three siblings. He is the son of Dr. M. Aftab Anwar, respected physician in his field, and Nadira Anwar, a mother who provides unconditional love. After graduating high school in 2002 he studied briefly at the University of South Alabama where he was blessed with the company of scholars. There, he met and studied with other students of knowledge. In 2011, he earned his B.A. (Honors) in Usul-ud-Din (Principles of Religion) with a specialization in Tafsir and Quranic Sciences. In Islamabad, he was blessed to study both in and out of the university with scholars from different parts of the world. Upon moving back to Atlanta, he began teaching Quran & Islamic Studies at an Islamic School. He was blessed to be able to network with American Muslim educators from around the nation and had an opportunity to be a presenter at the 2012 ISNA/CISNA Education Forum. Observing a need for practical Muslim leadership in education, he has completed a Master’s in Educational Leadership. Arshad is fluent in English and Urdu and well versed in Classical Arabic. He considers himself a student of knowledge and enjoys learning. His hobbies are teaching, martial arts, working out, and laughing with family and friends.
Lubna Merchant, Office Manager, born and raised in Mumbai, India and holds a Bachelors in Business Administration. Sr. Lubna is the point person at RCM for maintenance, financial administration, and anything else she can lend a hand in. She helps to facilitate meetings, appointments, facility requests, and provides support for visitors. She has worked similar roles at Reuters, AT&T, and Amana Academy in different capacities. Sr. Lubna resides in Alpharetta with her husband and 2 sons, and has also been a member of our community for 16 years. Socializing, event planning, and long walks are some things she enjoys.
Samer Bashir, ABI Director, has two sons: Khaleel and Yousuf. Samer. He was raised in Dubai and Palestine and has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics/Artificial Intelligence). Currently, Samer works as a Senior Engineer at Norfolk Southern Railway. Samer has been involved with RCM since our inception and has played various roles in the areas of education, operations, and religious affairs. In addition to directing ABI, Samer serves on the Religious Affairs committee. His hobbies include weight lifting and martial arts.
Shaheen Bharde, Public Relations/Communications Director, was born and raised in London, UK. She lives in Alpharetta, married and a mother of two boys. She currently runs an active sports injury and therapy business catered for the care and rehabilitation of critical care patients in the Atlanta area. Shaheen has been involved with RCM since the inception of the Masjid. She currently also chairs the Public Relations Committee and works with many local businesses and interfaith organizations to build relations and bridges with them and RCM. She was elected as governing Board member in May 2011 during the purchase of the new facility and served as the Board Secretary for four years. To further benefit the work of RCM, Shaheen is also serving on the Governing Board at North Fulton Community Charities as well as the Pastoral Advisory Committee At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Her achievements include being recognized in Women’s History month in 2014 and recognized in 40 under 40 Georgia Muslims in 2016. Shaheen is committed to building a strong inclusive community and has learned, that enriching the lives of others in some way has always been the driving force behind all her personal and professional pursuits.
Nada Diab, Programs/ISP Director, is originally Syrian but was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Moreover, Nada completed her Law degree from Case Western and has law licenses in both Ohio and Georgia. Following her marriage, Nada moved to Georgia and practiced law for several years in the fields of personal injury, family, and workers’ compensations. For the last 14 years, she left law in order to focus on raising her three girls. She and her husband have lived in Roswell for the last 17 years and have been involved with RCM since its foundation.
Saima Jewett, Social Director, received her and MBA in Risk Management from Walden University. She currently works as a Vertical Market Manager for home insurance products, focusing on market research and analysis of new products and initiatives. Saima’s prior volunteer experiences include taking an active role in volunteer initiatives at her company, frequently visiting shelters and food pantries to help the needy. Prior to becoming RCM’s social director, Saima has been involved many RCM Ramadan dinners and community events.
Mohsin Afridi, IT Director, grew up in Queens, NY and currently resides in Alpharetta. Mohsin earned his Bachelors in Computer Information Systems from Long Island University in Brookville, NY. He currently works for a telecommunications firm headed out of Atlanta where he helps support video middleware operations. Mohsin joined RCM’s executive committee in 2015 and is responsible for supporting RCM’s IT infrastructure and web presence.
Shahid Mahmood, Facilities Director
Hounada Sinno, At-Large Director, was born in Beirut, Lebanon where she earned a Degree in Architecture from the American University of Beirut. She moved to Atlanta in 1993, where she was granted the opportunity to work for an Architectural Design firm and later, an Information Transport Systems company. She currently works as an independent consultant for individuals and non-profit organizations. Hounada’s involvement at RCM started with the renovation project of the current facility. Upon completion of the building, she served as the Facility Manager and is presently assisting in the Qur’anic Sciences Program. She has also been a Speaker with the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta since 2002 and enjoys Interfaith Work. On a personal level, Hounada is married with two children and is grateful to be part of the RCM community.
Zain Syed, Prayer Services Director, is happily married and has two sons and one daughter: Areeb, Muneeb, and Ayesha. He was raised in Hyderabad, India and came to the US after graduating college with a three-year degree in commerce and economics. Currently, Zain works as an entrepreneur and owns apartments and commercial real estate. He has been very actively involved with RCM for two years. His current responsibilities as Prayer Services Director include the screening, developing, and scheduling of khateebs (speakers) for Friday prayers and other religious services. Zain enjoys playing and watching sports and is passionate about social work.
