The Board of Trustees, led by the Chairman, is tasked with RCM strategy, mission, metrics, and oversight. Its primary functions include long-term strategy, direction, fundraising, long-term financial planning, and Executive Committee supervision, among others. Based on RCM bylaws, each board member serves for three years and all board members may be re-elected with no limit on the number of terms. An election committee from the community screens and nominates candidates. The RCM Board utilizes a consultative process to make decisions and strives toward consensus before any decision is made.

Bassem Fakhoury, Chairman of the Board, earned his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, MO in 1985. Bassem worked in St. Louis for another 8 years before moving to Atlanta in 1993 to join The Coca-Cola Company, where he served as a Senior Project Manager. Since then, he has started his own company specializing in the repair and maintenance of restaurant equipment. He is involved with various community projects, including serving on the board of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta as well as being a member of the planning committee for the Atlanta Interfaith Leaders Fellowship. Recently, he was recognized as one of Georgia’s 100 Most Influential Muslims by the Islamic Speakers Bureau. Bassem has been involved with RCM since its inception and has served as Executive Director and Security Director prior to taking on his current role as Chairman. Bassem is married and has two children.
Asim Kidwai is a Family Medicine Physician at Piedmont Healthcare. His primary is focus is to give personalized care to all of his patients and to address any issues that they may have. While at Piedmont he has also helped with many initiatives, including revamping physician compensation for the organization, streamlining workflow in the clinic, and starting a new partnership involving Piedmont, Cigna, and Mohawk Flooring company. Asim graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s in Biology and a minor in Psychology. He went on to obtain his medical degree from the Dominican Republic. He has served on many medical missions to Haiti and Jordan. Currently, Asim lives in the Roswell/Alpharetta area with his wife, 3 daughters, and a son.
Ayesha Haddad was born in Jamaica W.I. and has lived in the United States since the age of 12. Ayesha moved from New York to Georgia in September of 2000 and has lived in the Roswell area since 2003. She is married, has two children, and has been involved with the RCM community since its inception. She has graduated with degrees in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, Accounting and Finance, from Berkley College, Dutchess Community College, and Georgia State University, respectively. Ayesha is the Director of After School Enrichment Programs at Amana Academy and is also the owner/operator of a children’s event sitting and planning company. She volunteers regularly with several organizations and is a Girl Scout Liaison. Ayesha is passionate about the overall well-being and development of our community- especially our youth. She was elected to the Board of Directors in January of 2015.
Bilal Waajid, an Atlanta Native, is the founder of Waajid Branding & Marketing and the visionary behind Connected Fitness. Prior to establishing his own business in 2010, Bilal Waajid worked in the non-profit organizational sector as a manager. His focuses included running programs devoted towards technology, design, youth development, physical fitness and community engagement. His role specifically required grant writing, periodical written reporting, hiring and managing a staff of 25 people under his direction, creating original programming, fostering parental engagement, and managing global relationships with more than 100 institutions worldwide. Bilal attended local Islamic Schools from preschool until graduation from Mohammed Schools. To this day, Bilal Waajid has long standing relationships in all regions of the Metro area. Bilal holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. In college he met his wife Najla Abdul-Khaliq, a Spelman College graduate. They have been happily married now for 16 years and have two children – Abdur- Rahman and Khadeejah.
Sabeen Abbas received her Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Alabama in 2001. She has since led teams in various roles and functions throughout her career in the execution of corporate initiatives and product strategy. She has worked at GE Appliances where she was part of a team that successfully ushered in 6 Sigma into a 20 year old plant in North Alabama. She has led product development in the automotive and baby/juvenile products industry. She has developed and implemented a Phase Gate process to align key teams in a consistent product development methodology at her most recent company. Through her projects at various companies, she has gained a significant amount of experience in Change management, innovation, strategy, product launch, manufacturing, IT, and supplier development. Her goal in life is to inspire change that matters. To stay true to that aim, she recently decided to return to school to reframe her experiences through the lens of an MBA student at Georgia Tech, where she will graduate in December 2017. She has also spent 4 years teaching 4th and 5th grade girls in RCM’s Islamic Science program and volunteering in other minor capacities at RCM. Roswell, Ga is where you can find Sabeen, her husband and ten year old daughter in their down time.
Tanvir Sarmast has 31 years of experience in the IT industry and is currently a Group Director at a multi-national beverage company. Her primary focus has been to lead through example and set a vision that enables individual and team growth. She has been actively involved in establishing and managing religious activities and programs for the Alpharetta and Roswell community. She played a key role in developing a weekend Islamic educational program at ICNF and managed the school for 5 years, prior to branching out to lead a Dars group for the ladies. She has also volunteered her time with organizations such as Hands On Atlanta, Habitat For Humanity, and Special Olympics. She currently lives in Alpharetta with her husband, and has a daughter who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Tauha Shahab is an IT professional with many years of experience working with a wide variety of national and international telecom service providers. As a professional, he has been involved in managing, designing, planning, integrating and optimizing telecom networks. While earning his Bachelors and Masters degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky, he lived in the beautiful Bluegrass state. Tauha is currently married and has three children. His community service involvement at RCM and in the broader community have included volunteering for operations management, special events support, and coordination of financial and counseling needs. Currently, he serves as a Merit Badge counselor for the local Boy Scouts troop. He enjoys being a member of diverse groups of people who utilize their varied backgrounds as a means to conduct open-minded discussions and learn from each other. In his spare time, Tauha has a passion for outdoor activities.
